I have lived in Vegas now 20 years but I sure wish it was still the Vegas of 20 years ago. Housing was so affordable back then and the city was sooo much smaller. It still does feel like a small town though. Better get here quick with all the Californias now going to move here. Stick to the West side of Vegas like Summerlin or Henderson. Whats really fun is all the great shows, food, events etc that you can do - or just stay in your local neighborhood and avoid the tourists. Most of us locals never go to the strip. And I love that the city is new and clean and we have lots of parks, lots of hiking, and Utah is close and an amazing state for outdoor activities. And San Diego is close too. I love Austin too but all the Dems have moved there. Of course all the CA's have come here too - we just hope they didn't bring their politics! I also hang out monthly with the libertarians here - we have a fun group.
I miss living in Las Vegas. I lived there (off and on) from 1980 through 2011. I loved it in the late 80s to mid-90s. When Wynn came in and manipulated tokes from cash to getting them in our paychecks it really put a damper on things.
I'm toying with moving back if I stay here in the US, but since it changed so much I don't know if it would be a good move for me. I"m married now and not sure my husband would be able to handle it. One thing for sure: Boredom, loneliness, and lack of friends would never be issues again. I live in the Midwest right now and must say it's the most depressing place I've ever lived in, in my entire lifetime.
Oh wow - I am thinking where can I go when Vegas becomes too California - I was thinking Tenn or Kentucky which is cheaper but I sure love the weather in the southwest. We drove all over Arizona during the pandemic looking for an escape from locked down Vegas and found a few places - not Phoenix though I want a smaller town when I retire - I want a house with neighbors not so close
Do you like the desert? What about New Mexico or West Texas? They’re both interesting places that aren’t overrun yet.
One place I particularly love is San Antonio. The old part. One pretty amazing thing is the smell. I don’t know if it’s the sagebrush or what, but it’s amazing, clean and fresh when you walk outside
There is a part of me wants the same thing you want. I just can’t see it happening here in the US. It’s expensive and where it used to be easy to move around it isn’t that way anymore for so many reasons, one being it’s outrageous expensive.
The ideal would be to have two homes, one in Nevada, and the other in another part of the country.
Yes, that's our idea, finding a couple small places so not to feel trapped. Of course if I have my way there will be no blue or red, we will live in another country!
Hey Jen! Yea while I was there I rly loved the culture. Everyone had a story - and I think multiple people jumped into conversations about conspiracies with me. I loved it! We'll see. I agree about Austin, although I know some great people who work there now I feel the worst parts of California have taken over. If I do end up out there we'll have to connect and your monthly libertarian group sounds fun!!
