''Los Angeles'' Yogananda used to say, '' is the Benares of the West, even as the city of Benares, in India, is the holy city of the Hindus.''
One might cavil, ''But Los Angels is the hub of every sort of 'mystical goofiness' in America! If any group were to come forward with the claim htat they are in intimate telepathic contact with a high civilization beneath the surface of Mars, that group would have its center in Los Angeles!''

Thank you for the passage and recommendation! The energy here is what I want to learn more about, it feels as though it hides a mystery about Western expansion as well as the ancient mysticism of the Native American cultures that were once here.
I went to Hollywood back in 2016. One thing that I have to say is that I was taken aback with how dirty it was - and how many homeless people were lounging around the area. I had heard that homelessness was rampant in the big cities, but coming from a small town in Wisconsin, I was not prepared for it. The rest of LA was not much better. I do have to say that I'm glad I went and experienced the big city. It prepared me for what I would encounter in the rest of my travels and for what life is really like.
