I don’t have it in me to care anymore.
I don’t care about politics, or who you voted for or if you voted at all; who you want to cancel or uncancel; or your opinion about Joe Biden and Donald Trump, two people you are never going to meet.
None of this is real.
I’m here to have a wild time on this planet and enjoy my short existence. I want to die thinking, “Thank God I didn’t get caught up caring about this shit.” I wish that you could have the same realization. Truly.
Imagine caring?
Imagine what we could accomplish without distraction, anxiety, jealousy?
Have some fun out there. Make a genuine friendship. Take a risk motherfucker.
And goddamnit, if you’re driven to be an activist, then have at it! But if you’re faking it — which you are — you’re wasting your life.
You’ve Reached the End
My college professors didn’t seem to know anything about the real world.
They’d tell us, ‘Why not just vote?’ Just VOTE. Yeah… but what about the lobbying, the lack of education, the lack of financial literacy, the bribery that isn’t legal, or the untrustworthy media?
That overrides the vote — doesn’t it?
How this country doesn’t have a dictator already is impressive. You know why? Because the average American is the problem.
We carbohydrate poison ourselves to death, have no clue how to manage money and think politics is what gender a fictional superhero is.
Democracy isn’t working.
At best, we live in an oligarchy, and even that’s failing.
Here’s what voting got you in 2020, it got you: Vice President Kamala Harris telling illegal immigrants, “do not come.” I translate that as ‘we don’t need you any more illegal immigrants… thanks for getting us into office though lol.’
Who allowed this to happen? Average Americans. All of us obsessed over political theatre instead of making meaningful changes in ourselves.
Let me break this down for you:
Country is polarized
Massive riots
Shitty economy
Be Selfish
Go hike while you can.
Go hang out with friends while you can.
Go fuck while you can.
Seriously, in Australia — where lockdown restrictions were the worst, a young couple was hit with a fat fine for fucking on a remote section of the beach.
Being selfish isn’t to say you shouldn’t care about people. I’m not a libertarian. People need health care and wealth inequality is a bitch. But I’m obsessed with my own well-being and that of my friends and family first and foremost. This quote from Naval Ravikant seems apt:
“With my family, I’m a communist. With my close friends, I’m a socialist. At the state level of politics, I’m a Democrat. At higher levels, I’m a Republican, and at the federal levels, I’m a Libertarian.” — Naval Ravikant
People are in political cults (on both the right and left) because they lack life purpose. Their political identity is their entire identity. That’s it.
I don’t know when my life is ending and neither do you. I just met a guy last year who died two hours after I met him. He was 26.
With the time I have left I want to laugh my ass off, make others laugh and experience as much as I can. I don’t know what your passion is but God I hope you find it.
The American Party is Over
I’m sick of friends who want to discuss nothing but news and not what’s happening in their lives! And I’m tired of people acting like an opinion really matters.
I say to these people, ‘You’re not going to take my happiness.’
You can obsess over things you’re pretending to care about all you want, but you’re not roping me into it. Or maybe you do care! But I don’t.
As I said, if your heart is into being an activist or obsessing over politics, then more power to you. That isn’t the case for me. It isn’t the case for most people I meet. They’re pretenders.
This isn’t a Gary Vee seminar, but find a fucking passion for your mental health. And more importantly, don’t follow it unless you’re willing to put the work in.
If not, it doesn’t affect me at all. I will go live as many experiences as possible, try my best not to let fear stop me, and not give two shits about politics… unless I can rant about them, of course.
I feel the exact same. I'm tired of outrage mixed with people's 15 minutes. The only happy people are the ones selling the "news."
Sage advice. I would re-phrase it ever so slightly. 'Don't give a shit about politics except to the extent you have to.' The lockdowns here, Australia, and everywhere proved that politics has invaded everything, and you can't always get away from it. Politics will sometimes get in your way even if you do your best to ignore them. But, yeah, we're all better off focusing on other things. I completely agree.
